Christmas celebration

Christmas is a special time — it’s an opportunity to praise God for His wonderful Son, Christ Jesus. Jesus inspires me on multiple levels — his inspiring actions and deeds, powerful teachings, and how he revealed God’s eternal love for us. Isn’t it wonderful that he brought to all of us clear proof of God’s real nature as the source of eternal Life and as divine Love itself — this is worthy of a true Christmas celebration!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
— Isaiah 9:6

The (hidden from the world) meaning of Christmas

Christmas often gets obscured by the hustle and bustle of today’s society and other traditions that have little to do with Christ or Jesus’ birth. These things might make it easy to miss the the Christ itself that Jesus’ healing ministry defined. Mary Baker Eddy explained and elucidated Christ Jesus’ ministry in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. To give insight into this healing Christ, our cause for celebrating Christmas, Mary Baker Eddy shared this in an article published in the New York World:

The true spirit of Christmas elevates medicine to Mind; it casts out evils, heals the sick, raises the dormant faculties, appeals to all conditions, and supplies every need of man.
Mary Baker Eddy, The First Church of Christ, Scientist and Miscellany, p.260:23-27

Christmas, through Jesus’ birth, and his life, revealed the divine nature of man as God’s idea. However, most of us still find Jesus’ life difficult to understand, and so the Christ seems abstract and remains hidden. We often think the Christ power is miraculous or as Jesus’ personal ability. However, Mary Baker Eddy saw it differently. Mrs. Eddy discovered the divine Principle behind the healing ministry of Jesus and that the Christ-power, or divine power expressed perfectly by man, as Jesus showed clearly as the Son of God. In her book Science and Health, Eddy also explains the spiritual and eternal nature of the Christ healing and how it’s goodness is available to all.

Some individuals assimilate truth more readily than others, but any student, who adheres to the divine rules of Christian Science and imbibes the spirit of Christ, can demonstrate Christian Science, cast out error, heal the sick, and add continually to his store of spiritual understanding, potency, enlightenment, and success.
Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p.462

What Christmas means for you and me

So what does Christmas mean for you and me? To me, at the very simplest, it means we’re good and safe, and that you and I, are not damned sinners nor are we doomed and evil mortals.

Many creeds disagree. But Christ Jesus never preached nor wrote a theological creed. Jesus demonstrated the Christ and told us to follow him — pure and simple. He showed more and told less. His actions spoke louder than words. To me, this what it’s all about — demonstrating good in our lives and helping others find this God-based good, too. It’s not complicated. It’s not hard. But it’s doable and everyone has the privilege to walk in Jesus’ footsteps to the degree God leads us.

No matter what, Christmas is a special time of year! I wish all the readers of my blog and my subscribers a Merry Christmas and I trust each of you will find out more, directly from God, about the goodness you express as God’s idea in the coming year.

Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him.
Isaiah 57:19
