Who you want to be may be the “new black” you’ve been seeking. But it’s actually not new — it’s who you are. It’s the qualities you reflect: goodness, intelligence, beauty, purity. These aren’t new — they’re eternal. They come from God, Spirit, and they make up who you are as Spirit’s reflection — God’s image and likeness — as the Bible has it.
So how do you get these qualities? You need to realize them. Make them real — put them into practice, by seeing, or acknowledging, that who you are is spiritual and that your only source is found in Spirit, God. These qualities are built into your spiritual DNA — a DNA that contains only spiritually identical qualities that come from Spirit itself. These qualities are good, health giving, purifying, and holy.
Just give it a shot. Take time each day for a simple daily prayer acknowledging these qualities as who you are because you are God’s image and likeness. Think about what these qualities are, how you can express them (put them in action), and then work at practicing them daily. And also acknowledge that it is God’s doing all the expressing! You’re really just bearing witness to who you really are by participating in this process.
The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or,lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. —Luke 17:20-21
When speaking of God’s children, not the children of men, Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you;” that is, Truth and Love reign in the real man, showing that man in God’s image is unfallen and eternal. Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick.
